How's going, cool receipe

Is it necessary to put yeast? Why do we use yeast to make dough?

If I want to make spicy dough, can I put spice in dough? like red chilli powder or any other spice? what about Rose water? or any other stuff that can be put in dough?

my response:

If you are trying to make pizza, yes, you absolutely need yeast.

Yeast is a living creature. Think fungus. The yeast is dormant until it is activated. you can speed the activation with warm water and sugar. But it is NOT necessay.

You can also activate the yeast by doing a cold ferment in the fridge. The yeast will still activate but more slowly. The cold ferment needs to be done over night in the fridge.

The yeast is needed to make the dough rise. If you omit yeast you will have a crust like a saltine cracker or matzo. (Google it) In order to make pizza: you need yeast!

Part 2:

Yes you can certainly experiment with the dough. Put in Chili Powder if you wish, or you can use other spices as well. Try using a small amount at first. See if you like the taste. you are going on the outer limits of pizza, however.

Try it. If you like the taste, you have a winner!

food luck,

albert
