On the history channel's new (I think) show called "American Eats," they had an interesting special on the origins of pizza in America. It also included the origins of such famous chains as Dominos and Pizza Hut.

I would definently reccomend it to anyone who loves pizza or is looking for something good to watch. It has already been shown and I am unsure of all the times, but I do know that another pizza episode may not be on the history channel for sometime, but they do have other cool episodes such as hotdogs and soda. When I see another pizza one I will post it here.

I watched America Eats Pizza and liked it very much.

I thought the show covered a lot of pizza history and contained some very interesting pizza tales. This was not, in depth reporting however, they covered a lot of ground.

There were great interviews including, Jeff Ruby and Penny Pollack authors of Everybody Loves Pizza.
(Check out Everybody Loves Pizza here: http://pizzatherapy.com/pizzabooks.htm)

One of the stories they told was about Frank Pepe, owner and founder of Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napolentana in New Haven, Connecticut.

America Eats: Pizza , stated Frank Pepe was allergic to tomatoes and mozzarella.

This sounded so amazing, I put the question to Gary Bimonte, Frank Pepe's grandson.

The short answer is: this was not true.

You can read about my questions for Gary Bimonte and my latest review of Pepe's at Pizza Notes from pizzatherapy.com blog. Here is the link:

The show is a must see for any pizza fan. You see pizza from the pizzaiolo view point as well as the mass production of pizza.
I hope they re-run this show again.

I looked and don't see a repeat in the near future.
They do sell the dvd though http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=76216&browseCategoryId=&location=&parentcatid=&subcatid=
Personally I wouldn't spend 25 bucks on it, but in case anyones interested there it is.
