I don't know if there are any other southerners around (hi, I'm new ) but a great southern pizza place is the Mellow Mushroom. They make a great pie and put a lot of cool spins on traditional pizza, despite their hippy theme.

One such pie is called the "Magical Mystery Tour". They use their standard dough with a pesto sauce, mozzarella, spinach, jalapeños, portobello mushrooms and feta. It sounds a little crazy but it's fabulous - sharp flavors contrasted with the spice of the jalapeños and mellowness of the cheese.

Mellow Mushroom is one of those "experience" things - I was at a Mellow Mushroom in Jacksonville, Florida about 3 months ago, and I concur with your review! They also had a nice complement of beers to go along.

I think I basically ordered that the other night from my local pizza place! (Just by doing a build-your-own pizza). I am delighted to hear that it is actually a pizza somewhere. Is the Mellow Yellow all over the south, or is it just in one state?
