I went to college with Al Grande and I had the pleasure of eating a pizza made by his Dad. It was a cheese pizza which normally I don't choose but to this day it was the best pizza or food that I have eaten.
Thanks

Albert:
Thanks for your work in providing this forum for us. It's great to have a place where we can not only learn about pizza, but share our experiences as well. You have done, and continue to do, much for the cause of pizza on earth

Albert,
Thanks for putting the forum together. My wife and I are thinking about opening a pizza shop in a small village in southern Ecuador some day in the not too distant future. I have a strong Italian heritage and we are all about hands on food preparation using homegrown ingredients. Wood fired ovens are easy and inexpensive to put together in Ecuador and so we would like to get as much info as we can about making pizza in a hot oven.
Thanks again Albert.
Which island are you on?

I live on the Island of Oahu. I grew up in Connecticut and lived in Virginia, and Vermont for a number of years.
I love living in Hawaii. It's not always easy to get good pizza here, so I make my own. The very coolest thing about the Internet is that it makes communication with people in different parts of the world possible.
Of course making pizza is my passion. I do not pretend to make the best pizza. I do not pretend to know all there is to know about pizza. I still consider myself a student of pizza.
I am not snobby about making pizza. I think everyone has the potential to make great pizza. I encourage people to make pizza whenever possible.
I am very excited about hearing of your pizza adventures in Ecuador! Interesting to hear about the wood fired ovens.
I know all of your pizzas will turn out well. I know you will be a success.
pizza on earth..

That's "naive."
And I think that comment borders on being against the guidelines set out for this forum. I understand that that's the way you feel but it's disrespectful to others. Not everyone lives in/near CT or has the means to travel there. We must make do the best we can.
I live in Wisconsin but I don't tell other people not to talk about milk and cheese (which is about all we're known for, aside from frostbite).
Besides, this is not the Connecticut Pizza Forum. I'm sure there is one somewhere or you could start one if that's what you want. And pizza does not belong to Connecticut or its residents. If any place has a right to claim superiority it would be Italy, and I bet there are Italians who know very little about pizza. No one has a monopoly on wisdom or quality. |

Thanks songbird. You are the voice of reason....
I greatly appreciate your comments.
The comment above is right on the line.
For the record: I am from Connecticut. I know Connecticut pizza, however, believe me, Connecticut does not have a lock on all the great pizza out there.
I believe there is great pizza wherever you go. North, South, East and West!
I have always felt, people are very loyal to their own region. They prefer to have pizza they are comfortable with.
I think that is what makes pizza such a great topic to discuss.
Further, what tastes good to me, may not taste good to you.
Who am I to tell you what tastes good to you? You need to decide for yourself.
Anyway, thanks songbird for setting everyone straight!
That's what I love about pizza! _________________ "Pizza on Earth...Good Will to All!"

|

Hi, All,
Heading out to LA next week for a family vacation (born and raised in CT, am used to great pizza--Waterbury pizza, in fact: Dominic's, Bacco's, Zachary's).
So: where to get great pizza in L.A.? I have been out there many times and have yet to find any that I would consider really good. Someone told me that there's a place on Manhattan beach that literally sells it from a window by the slice, like in NYC and it's supposedly great. I will check that out, but what about a great pizza restaurant where we can all go?
Suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
